Tether has minted an additional 1 billion USDT tokens on the Tron network, raising the total number of USDT tokens created in the past year to 33 billion. According to blockchain data, the minting occurred on August 20, with the tokens sent to Tether’s treasury wallet.
This recent activity is part of a broader trend, with Tether minting 19 billion USDT on Tron and 14 billion on the Ethereum blockchain over the past year. The latest mint follows a similar transaction on Ethereum, where Tether added another 1 billion USDT on August 13.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino clarified that the Ethereum mint was an “inventory replenish,” meaning the newly minted tokens were authorized but not immediately issued. This approach ensures Tether can meet demand and manage liquidity effectively without flooding the market with new tokens all at once.
The move comes as Tron solidifies its position as the leader in stablecoin supply, holding 37.9% of the market with over $61 billion in stablecoins on the network.
This latest minting suggests a strong demand for USDT on Tron, as Tether’s treasury reportedly had only $36 million USDT tokens “authorized but not issued” on the network as of August 19.
Tether has yet to comment on this latest minting, but the continued issuance highlights the stablecoin’s growing role in the digital asset market.
