Kamala Harris Vows to Make the U.S. a Global Leader in Blockchain and AI

Vice President Kamala Harris has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to ensuring that the United States becomes the world leader in emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing. Speaking at The Economic Club of Pittsburgh on Sept. 25, Harris emphasized the importance of maintaining American dominance in these fields to remain competitive on the global stage, particularly against nations like China.

Harris outlined her vision of an “opportunity economy,” where innovation flourishes alongside strong consumer protections. She highlighted the need for a favorable business environment and clear regulatory frameworks to support the development of digital assets and other advanced technologies. “We must be dominant in blockchain,” Harris stated, underlining the strategic importance of this technology for future economic growth.

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban has endorsed Kamala Harris’s vision, particularly her stance on digital assets and blockchain. Cuban praised Harris’s rejection of “regulation through litigation” and suggested that her administration may replace SEC Chair Gary Gensler, a move Cuban believes could boost the economy and contribute to GDP growth.

In an interview, Cuban expressed interest in leading the SEC under a Harris administration, signaling his support for her approach to technological regulation. Cuban’s endorsement underscores his alignment with Harris’s emphasis on fostering innovation while ensuring fair regulatory practices.

Harris’s vision also garnered support from U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who applauded her pro-technology stance. Khanna likened opposition to digital assets like Bitcoin to opposing technological advancements such as smartphones or laptops. He emphasized that embracing Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is crucial for maintaining the United States’ leadership in the global economy, calling Bitcoin a “new kind of gold” for younger generations.

Harris’s speech coincided with the release of her 80-page economic plan, which prioritizes fostering growth in industries like AI, blockchain, and quantum technology. The plan outlines a balance between innovation and regulatory oversight, aiming to protect consumers while driving economic expansion.
