It may be known primarily as an online payment method, but PayPal is now setting its sights on helping its users get started with cryptocurrencies. ConsenSys, the company behind MetaMask, has announced plans to add an integration in its crypto wallet so that users can buy cryptocurrencies using their PayPal account.
MetaMask intends the offering to help bring more users into the Web3 ecosystem at a time when the sector is looking for a way forward amid the so-called “crypto winter”.
According to a press release, the partnership between the payments firm and MetaMask developer ConsenSys will allow users to select their PayPal accounts as a payment option to buy Ethereum (ETH) from within the MetaMask app. The offering is designed to facilitate seamless purchases and transfers of Ethereum from PayPal to MetaMask.
“This integration with PayPal will allow our U.S. users to not just buy crypto seamlessly through MetaMask, but also to easily explore the Web3 ecosystem”, says Lorenzo Santos, product manager for MetaMask.
The new functionality is available to selected users in the U.S. now and will roll out to all eligible U.S. customers in the coming weeks.
